ON SCREEN DELHI-THE CAPITAL CONNECT

Yeh Dilli Hai Meri Jaan, Bas Ishq Mohabbat Pyaar
Basti Hai Mastano Ki Dilli Dilli, Gali Hai Deewano Ki Dilli 6
Bolo Bolo Milo Se Dilli Dilli, Bolo Bolo Milo Se Dilli 6
Basti Hai Mastano Ki Dilli Dilli, Gali Hai Deewano Ki Dilli 6

This is Delhi, my friend. Its all about love, life and romance
It’s the city of lovers, a city for romantics......

From the crowded streets of Chandni Chowk in Delhi 6 to the elitist class of South Delhi in Aisha, the film makers have explored, extracted and projected the essence of the capital city in the films we all admire and relate to in some way or the other way...

The tour of the capital city is incomplete without exploring its recently emerging filmy side. When it comes to shooting films, Delhi remains a darling with the Bollywood fraternity, despite over-excited mobs and security concerns.

Delhi, a city always associated with ancient ruins, politics and power, had always remained the other city in terms of shooting films for Mumbai(city of dreams) was the original hub of film making but with time a new dimension of Delhi was discovered by the artistic and culturally driven part of our society. In times gone by, the location was just incidental. In contrast, today's movies use the location to tell a story.

Today, we give you an insight into why Delhi is increasingly becoming the movie magnet and what is it that is pulling the actors and filmmakers to this city.

Firstly, the audience is getting more and more active and aware of the world of movies. They are not simply viewers but are the source of feedback, inputs and suggestions for the film fraternity. There fore the directors are becoming more and more realistic in their approach by moving away from ideal locations and picturesque scenes to connect with a larger viewership through their films.
Metro, Delhi University, Connaught Place, Jhandewalan, Chandani Chowk, the rich historical and cultural streets of Old Delhi, high rise gleaming corporate towers or the food stalls outside offices-everything has been captured by camera lens to reflect an insight into Delhi.

Secondly, the capital has justified the "Dilli Dil Waalo Ki" tag by being a host to movie stars, entire cast and crew of some of the grandest movies shot in Bollywood without many hassles. More over, producers find it comparitively cheaper to shoot in Delhi.

Thirldy, the audience connect by depicting the genuine and grass root issues such as use of the typical punjabi- haryanvi accents, the facade of arrogance and of course, the loud and boisterous marriages. Khosla ka Ghosla, Dev D, Oye Lucky Lucky Oye, Do Dooni Char, LSD, Band Baaja Baarat all of these were populated with characters you would actually see in the streets and localities(especially middle class) of Delhi.
