LOTUS TEMPLE
Lotus temple remains a fascination for everyone who visits Delhi for the first time. This monument spot situated in kalkaji ,remains the most unique one due to its distinguished characteristics. Though it is situated in India, it does not has a historic or culture threads attached to it. Outwardly, it may appear to be some general temple like the others, dedicated to goddess saraswati ( that is what comes to mind when mentioned lotus.though some may also say BJP but here we have nothing political to do.),but that is not the actual case.
So brushing aside the apprehension arising due to the structure of the temple, let me clear that its not even a temple.Lotus temple is basically a foundation house for people of all religion to come together and meditate on the name of the God. It can be described best as the house of meditation that envelops the humanity without any distinction and gives them an atmosphere of peace, stability and satisfaction.

As you enter this place after standing in the long queue, you find on your left side this huge
lotus shaped structure that is white in colour. The mere sight of the temple gives you a
feeling that this visit is worth it. The green parks spread over a large area
forms its circumference and gives it a greenish hue. The silence that you
experience here is commendable. The front view of the temple is fascinating. The temple is surrounded by nine pools on all sides. It is said that these pools have a calming affect over the near atmosphere.
The doors of the entrance are made of glasses and the volunteers there give the visitors certain instruction before letting them in, both in English and Hindi language. As the place is purely for meditation, people are not allowed to speak in .So this isn't a place for children ( unless they can learn to be quite). Here the main thing comes....no statues, pictures ,posters of any God were there inside save for the long benches arranged in a semicircle structure for people to sit in.
The immense amount of satisfaction and peace is felt when you sit down and meditate. The temple purely justifies the upholding of humanity .The prayer hall that is open to all signifies the unity of mankind where people from every religion come and find solace. The place has some kind of vibration that could be felt ,though people could hardly sit for few minutes.(lack of patience). talking about the history of this edifice,it is the propagation of Baha'i Faith which is an independent world religion that has a scientific outlook. It emphasises on the principle of oneness of the entire human race. This religion was created by BAHA U'LLAH. It has its edifices over other parts of the world. Because of its universal characteristic, it attracts foreigners and people having believing in the Baha'i Faith.
Down the stairs, visitors can enjoy the scenic view of the pool sitting on the steps , which is also used as wishing well (with the coins visible down). There is also a small museum where you can find many books on the baha'i faith. To give the final assessment, the place speaks of spirituality and the concrete lotus structure adds cherry to the cake.A must visit for people who are searching for silence in this otherwise world of chaos!!!
